Engaging Community

Engaging Community

The University Scholars Program provides opportunities for students to form lasting friendships through their living and learning communities on campus, their disciplines of study, and their interests outside the classroom.

UNSC New Student Experience

In their first semester, students participate in a New Student Experience program designed specifically for University Scholars enrolled in Great Texts 2301: Intellectual Traditions of the Ancient World. The New Student Experience combines courses and programs designed to help students transition well to the rigorous academic environment at Baylor. These experiences engage help students form meaningful connections and set them up for success at Baylor and beyond

UNSC Coursework

University Scholars have the opportunity to take a variety of courses created specifically for UNSC and Honors College students. These include team-taught UNSC sections of the required GTX 2301, GTX 2302, and UNSC 3301 series, as well as Honors sections of courses across campus. These courses encourage the integration of rigorous academic pursuits with enriching community.

UNSC Weekly Tea Time

Every Thursday afternoon, UNSC students, faculty, and staff get together for our weekly Tea Time over a cup of tea, coffee or cocoa. It is a wonderful way for students to connect and build friendships and mentorships outside the classroom. It also serves as a weekly opportunity to get any questions they have answered, and get quick guidance they may be seeking.

The Honors Residential College

The Honors Residential College (HRC) provides students with an intentional  living-learning community in which they can pursue growth in their academic life, engage in spiritual development, and build meaningful friendships. Students can get involved in the HRC through service initiatives, social functions, spiritual reflections, academic discussions, and mentorships from faculty and staff.  All University Scholars students are eligible to live in the caring community of the HRC.

The Formation Series Lectures

The Formation Series, hosted by the Honors Residential College, is an opportunity to discuss what it means to be formed as a whole person in heart, soul, mind, and strength – the fundamental commitment of the HRC community. The Formation Series brings the HRC community together around the love of learning in three engaging lectures each semester that are open to the Waco community.
